When it comes to the joys of juicing and benefits of beets, Chaz Bono is a walking advertisement. He's lost almost half of his body weight, reported the Daily Mail. So how did he do it? A combination of a healthy diet, exercise and diet drugs.
"Got a juicer to add more vegetables to my diet," he tweeted. "My first juice was combo of apple, lemon, beet, carrot, celery, cucumber, and ginger. Awesome!"
Supplementing his juicing regime: Drinking lots of water, exercising and using recently FDA approved obesity drug Qsymia under the supervision of a doctor, according to the Daily Mail. Chaz has faced challenges as he sought to lose weight while taking male hormones after his gender reassignment surgery. He's written about that experience in "Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man."
When it comes to extreme weight loss like Chaz's, diet and fitness expert Chris Powell often emphasizes the holistic transformation that must occur. Has Chaz transformed his mind and spirit as well as his body when it comes to a healthy lifestyle?
Chaz answered that question in a recent interview with People magazine: "I just have a lot more confidence, and that feels really cool. I really like what I see in the mirror. Physically, my body feels just so much better I'm in a lot less discomfort when I exercise and am doing physical stuff. All of my numbers are all normal now, which is great – my blood pressure, my cholesterol."
To share his physical and emotional transformation, Chaz also created a documentary: "Becoming Chaz." Why make it so public? He allowed cameras to follow him for about 16 month as she physically and mentally transitioned from being a woman to becoming a man because "I don't have the luxury of doing things privately. So I thought, 'Let me do the opposite and try to really help people and bring understanding and shed light on this issue that so many people just can't seem to wrap their head around.'"
