Chavez Jr. looking to duck Sergio Martinez for Margarito, More Bob Arum politics

Despite the WBC ruling that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. would have to fight Sergio Martinez next, it appears that the current WBC middleweight champion is looking to fight Antonio Margarito instead. Chavez Jr. (45-0-1) and welterweight Antonio Margarito (38-8, 27KOs) are hoping to schedule the fight in the summer. However, according to a Tuesday February 7th report by BoxingScene.com, the WBC will most likely reject the fight between Chavez Jr. and Margarito. If Chavez decides to forego WBC's demands, he could be stripped of the belt.

Sergio Martinez is set to fight Matthew Macklin on March 17th and has been calling out Chavez for roughly the last year. Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum has publicly belittled Martinez in the past as he tried to make excuses for Chavez being above a fight with Martinez.

It appears that Arum wants to keep Chavez away from Sergio and rather have Julio take on a faded fighter in Margarito. Both Chavez Jr. and Margarito fight under the Top Rank banner and just further proves that Arum rather get all the money than make fights that matter. This is the same criticism that Arum has received for the fights he makes for Manny Pacquiao and made for Miguel Cotto. Last year, Sergio also called out Cotto but Arum avoided that bout as well.

Instead, Arum made the fight between Cotto and Margarito last December which Miguel handily won. Miguel split from Top Rank afterwards and quickly made a fight with Mayweather Jr. Floyd has stated many times in the past how much he dislikes Arum and Bob's antics.

Margarito does not deserve a middleweight title shot and this is just another example of Arum's seriously flawed match making.
