Ballet Nouveau Colorado and The Lakewood Cultural Center are pairing together to bring three world premiers together in a celebration of art - with Chasing the Sublime.
Ballet Nouveau Colorado's artistic director, Garrett Ammon, will pair with sculptor Mark Allen Henderson in one of the three artistic pairings presented. This partnership highlights the idea behind Chasing the Sublime - pair three choreographers with three visual artists. Ammon and Henderson delighted in the partnership formed for their piece. Says Henderson, "Working with Garrett has opened doors to my imagination and given me the chance to explore an alternate process of expression. The neat thing is that we grasp each other’s emotions in art. This was evident from the moment we met.”
The second pairing will feature choreographer Alex Ketley, winner of Isadora Duncan Award for Best Ensemble Performance in 2008 for his work "To Color Me Different," with photographer Mark Sink. This is Sink's first creative pairing with dancers; he has experience collaborating with artists in a variety of other mediums, but this was a first.
Lastly, sculptor Laura Merage and choreographer Sarah Tallman will combine their artistic energies for their piece, which centers around the complexity of human emotions and feelings. Both women felt that they were certainly on the same page in terms of their vision. “Since both our works portray human feelings, the fit was natural. Dancing bodies coming together with two-dimensional art full of raw emotions can be quite striking and moving. It has been a joy to work with Sarah and the process has gone very smoothly. I know the audience will feel the power of two artists coming together to make magic." says Merage.
