Imagine two musicians with multiple mutual friends, whose paths keep crossing… and yet, they never meet. Well, that would be a terrible ending to the story! Thankfully this story does not end there…
Once upon a time, Tammy Rochelle was studying at Belmont while Joseph Bamber was studying at Vanderbilt. In fact, Bamber’s brother was at Belmont at the same time, and his roommate was Rochelle’s guitar player. Rochelle and Bamber, both musicians with a love of traveling, went on to play some of the same music festivals in Europe… but never at the same time. They attended the same church here in Nashville… but with busy tour schedules, they were never really in Nashville at the same time, either.
Finally they met, through a mutual friend from Poland, and instantly started playing music together. She went to play on his gigs in Nicaragua, and he followed her to Europe to play on her gigs there. People liked their voices together, and talk of recording something together came up. Bamber moved back to Nashville in 2011, and work began on what would become Chasing Summer’s first EP.
Rochelle says they each started writing songs about/for the other, as they were first falling in love. They weren’t initially looking to perform them, but 6 such songs landed on the EP. They wrote two tracks together, and each contributed two tracks they wrote separately. The album overall has a folksy sound, and a happy, easy-going vibe.
The Dark Horse Institute was looking for a band to partner with, to record at Dark Horse Studios, and Rochelle and Bamber couldn’t pass up the opportunity. They had already planned another trip to Europe, so why not make it a tour to promote the new album? And, while they’re at it, they’ll also be making it their honeymoon!
The fun kicks off with an album release party at The Listening Room Café this Thursday. Since the self-titled debut album is all about falling in love, the happy duo thought a Valentine’s Day release would be ideal. On this occasion, the audience will be pampered with chocolate and roses… and a night of romantic songs.
