Chasing chickens and curing yeast infections

The last few weeks have given me a new challenge.  Namely, how to mount heavy items on a stucco wall.  I once thought that would be easy, but boy, was I wrong!  I’m so proud that I finally got a mirror to stay up without leaving huge holes in the wall.  Now this mechanically-challenged herbalist is building up the nerve to try to mount a wall cabinet.  Wish me luck!

Dear Donndez – I grew up in Albuquerque and married a farmer from Nebraska.  We finally were able to buy a small farm and I want a couple of chickens, but I heard that they can potentially make my kids sick.  Is this true? – Stacey M., Romero

Dear Stacey – I have never heard of chickens carrying a disease that can affect humans – whether adult or child, unless you are speaking of salmonella from the uncooked meat.  I think the biggest danger would be to the chickens.  Depending on the children, they can chase the desire to lay eggs right out of the hens, although the rooster may try to defend his brood, which can cause the kids to have scratches and pecks.  By the way, congratulations on acquiring your farm!

Dear Donndez – I’ve got a problem and I don’t know who to talk to.  I had sex for the first time and now I have this smelly, gooey discharge and itch constantly.  Could it be caused by the condoms we used?  Is this serious?  -- Christy J., Santa Fe

Dear Christy – I applaud that you used a condom, but unless you are allergic to the material the condoms were made from, I would not attribute the problem to them.  It sounds like you have a yeast infection, but without examination, I couldn’t confirm this.  Assuming you have contracted a yeast infection, you might consider purchasing some medication from the pharmacy.  There are several to chose from that help alleviate the symptoms of a yeast infection.  Alternatively, douche with nonflavored yogurt with live culture, such as Greek yogurt, plus wear cotton underwear, not nylon, silk, or thongs.  Meanwhile, it would be best to schedule an appointment with a health care professional as soon as possible.  It would be wise to find out what the problem is rather than try a variety of home remedies and hope you guess correctly!
