Georgetown's hidden gem has been found in the form of a fabulous one stop shop jewelry boutique named "Charm Georgetown" found at 2910 M Street NW. The ambiance as soon as you enter the boutique is fun and vibrant and you can definitely tell that they want their customers to enjoy themselves while looking through the different treasures that fill the store from gorgeous jewelry to specialty items. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with owner Jaclyn Mason and her publicist/really good friend Erika Gutierrez and this is what I found out:
Why Georgetown, what motivated you to open your boutique here?
Jaclyn: This is the best street in Washington, I’m familiar with the area and I grew up here. I felt that M Street is changing and is evolving into this place where boutiques and brands can flourish and thrive; I wanted to be where all the action is. My clientele is here and I love the community and the people. M street is an important street to have a store on for sure.
Who is your
Jaclyn: Everyone who loves fashion and wants to look good and who has an eye. My customer is a young professional or could be an older housewife, someone who wants to buy affordable jewelry to someone who wants to spend thousands of dollars on a rare gem. It’s a broad range of clientele.
Erika: A college girl can come in and buy something for thirty dollars or a Diplomat's wife can also come in and buy a necklace for five thousand dollars for an event.
Jaclyn: We cater to people’s needs here I feel like I want everyone to enjoy the store. We split the store up in two with the jewelry upfront which focuses just on the jewelry and in the back you can find last minute purchases like accessories or gag gifts for friends, hip trendy items that you will find in magazines and specialty items like great sweater wraps that you could quickly pick up before going to a movie.
Who are some of the designers that you carry?
Jaclyn: We carry Ella Poe, Jennifer Zeuner, Roni Blansha, Alexis Bittar, Kendra Scott, Charm Jewelry which is our jewelry brand and more affordable and more for the pick up and go type of customer, Nava Zahavi, Greenbeads Couture, J.J. Winters handbags, and we specialize in bib necklaces. We carry so many brands that I can't name them all in one sitting. With jewelry we are spread across the board from luxury brands to the less luxurious that boasts a variety of styles.
How do you determine what designers you want to carry?
Jaclyn: We hand pick each piece and look at each designer in each category and decide which would work best for our clientele. Price is also very important to us especially in this economy we want everyone to walk out of our store feeling that their money was well spent and that what they brought was worth it.
What would you say sets your boutique apart from the rest in Washington, D.C.?
Jaclyn: We have great branding power and offer a massive selection of travel and bijou jewelry we bring a very trendy cutting edge look to Washington and I don't think anyone has really touched on it yet.
What should fashionistas expect for Fashion Night Out?
Jaclyn: We are going to have a trunk show featuring MIJA Jewelry, by Michelle Guest who will also be here taking orders. I feel that jewelry line represents us and I wanted to have this line featured during Fashion Night Out because I felt it embodied what everyone likes. It is beautiful, classic, and is the right price. After everyone walks up and down M Street they will want to come here and get some great jewelry. We are looking forward to it and think it will be fun and exciting.
What are some of the trends you are seeing for fall?
Jaclyn: Lots of greens, purples, "bling", statement necklaces, and gold pieces are here to stay. Anything unique that will turn a drab outfit fab.
What advice do you have for an aspiring boutique owner in Washington, D.C.?
Jaclyn: I think just stick to what you believe in and go for it, take a risk, if you have a passion for something and goals, just go for it. I support local designers and independent designers. I feel that giving them an opportunity to showcase their work in an establishment makes things move. It takes patience and a lot of dedication it is definitely an interesting field to go into.
It was a pleasure to sit down with the ladies of Charm. If you haven’t already make sure you visit Charm Georgetown you won’t be disappointed I promise it is definitely “Charming.” Check them out on
