Charlotte's top dog best, part 1

Charlotte has a reputation as a family friendly city and furry family members have many options to choose from for outdoor entertainment and exercise. The Mecklenburg Parks and Reccreations Department
as several off-leash park areas available around the city. Here is a list of these doggie social hot-spots.

Frazier Dog Park
Frazier Dog Park is located at 1201 West 4th Street in Charlotte's Center City. This park offers a 1.3 acre Dog Park with sections for small dogs and large dogs. This dog park has a public water supply for doggie drinks.

Other features at Frazier Park: A total of 11.9 acres, soccer/flag football field, 2 basketball courts, 2 tennis courts, greenway trails along Irwin Creek and a playground for children 2-5 years old.

Swaney Pointe K-9 Park at Ramsey Creek Park
The K-9 Park is located at 18441 Nantz Road in North Charlotte. The park has a 4-acre, fenced-in, off-leash area for dogs. There are two separate fenced-in sections to the dog park; one for dogs over 20lbs (large) and another for dogs less than 20lbs (small).

Other features at Ramsey Creek Park: A boat launching area, docks, a fishing pier, 3 picnic shelters, 2 horseshoe pits, a volleyball area, natural walking trails, and a playground all on a total of 43.7 acres.

Barkingham Park at Reedy Creek Park
This popular park is located at 2900 Rocky River Road in the University Area. This park provides a 4-acre, fenced-in, off-leash area for dogs that is a great gathering place for owners.

Other features at Reedy Creek Park: An expansive 116 acre park, a lakeside meadow, basketball courts, 2 softball fields, a soccer field, a cricket field, 2 horseshoe pits, 4 volley balls courts, a community garden, an 18-hole disc golf course, picnic shelters, 2 playgrounds, the Reedy Creek Nature Center, and 10 miles of hiking trails located in the adjacent 727-acre Reedy Creek Nature Preserves.

Ray's Fetching Meadow at McAlpine Creek Community Park,
Located at 8711 Monroe Road on the East Side of the Queen City, Ray’s Fetching Medow is a one-acre, fenced-in, off-leash area for dogs.

Other features at McAlpine Creek Community Park: A vast 462 acres to explore, a 3-acre lake, a fishing pier, a gazebo, horseshoes, picnicking areas, 5 soccer fields, a 2-mile bike trail, a 1.5-mile nature trail, and a 5K championship cross-country racing trail.

Davie Dog Park at William R. Davie District Park
Davie Dog Park can be found at 4635 Pineville-Matthews Road on the South Side of Charlotte. This park is a five-acre, fenced-in, off-leash area for dogs. There are separate fenced-in sections for large and small dogs.

Other features at William R. Davie Park: A total of 106.7 acres, basketball courts, 4 softball fields, 2 lighted soccer fields, volleyball courts, 2 horseshoe pits, an indoor shelter, walking trails, and a playground.

All of these Mecklenburg County operated dog parks are open from 7:30am until sunset seven days a week. As of July 1, 2008, use of county dog parks is now free. Dogs and owners must follow all specific dog park rules and children under 12 are not allowed in these dog parks.
