Charlotte Restaurants: Big Splurge Valentine menus

Valentine's Day is one of the year's top restaurant events in Charlotte with (almost) everyone eating out with their sweetie, and nearly every restaurant planning a special menu. This year, Valentine celebrations stretch across the weekend before and sometimes the weekend after. A few restaurants are offering a special menu all month. Here's a quick list with links to menus around town. Reservations are generally required and always a good idea.

The Big Splurge

Nothing says love like lobster and steak - and a hefty check. All these spots will set you back a hundred bucks or so. You're worth it, baby! 

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse offers the perfect splurge - an 8-oz filet and 8-oz lobster tail for $79 per person. Available Feb. 14 only.  

At The Palm, split a jumbo 4-lb. Nova Scotia lobster with your lover, along with a bottle of Piper Sonoma Brut. $120 per couple/ $150 with champagne. Available February 10-14.

Ruth's Chris Steak House: 3-course steak & lobster dinner Valentine's menu featuring 8 oz. petite filet and 5 oz Caribbean lobster tail. $65 per person. Feb. 10-14.

Sante in Matthews offers a 5-course meal on Valentine's Day for $65 per person/$55 for tables arriving by 5:30 pm. Entrees include crab-crusted grouper, Filet Mignon, Whole shelled Lobster, or Rack of Lamb. Open Sunday and Monday before Valentine's.

Dressler's Midtown: 4 course meal for $60 per person. Special menu includes choice of crab-stuffed lobster tails, filet mignon, and more. February 14 only. Regular menu not available. 

Carpe Diem: three course special menu; $50 per person. 

Terrace Café in Ballantyne and South Park: 4-course Valentine's menu, including Champagne Course with Chocolate Strawberries. $95 per couple. Feb. 10, 11 and 14. 

The Melting Pot, with its romantic fondue-based menu, offers a 5-course dinner for two including a surf & turf lobster and steak fondue that you cook in champagne, and finishing up with chocolate fondue. $150 per couple. Feb. 14 only. 

Chima Brazilian Steakhouse: $75 per person Valentine special includes Rodizio, salad bar, glass of champagne, special Valentine's dessert, and coffee. Feb. 14 only. 

Fleming's Steakhouse offers an a la carte Valentine's menu with special entrees, each priced at $69.95, including Filet Mignon & Prawns, Prime New York Strip & King Crab, and Lobster & Lobster (a jumbo North Atlantic lobster tail plus lobster mac & cheese). Specials available Feb. 12-14. Each couple who dines at Fleming's during that period receives a $25 gift card for a future visit. 

Global Restaurant: 5-course prix fixe Valentine's menu featuring duck confit and short ribs. $65/person or $95/person with wine pairings. 

McNinch House: All-inclusive 6-course Chef's Tasting Menu with Wine Pairings. $150 per person. 2/10-2/14. Seatings at 6:30 and 8:30. Reservations required. 704-332-6159

Passion8 Bistro: 4-course menu featuring braised pork shank, day boat fish, or duck breast, plus music by Brittany Coleman on guitar & autoharp. $125 per couple. Feb. 14 only.

Mez in the Epicentre plans a 5-course Valentine's menu featuring pan-seared striped bass, beef tenderloin with garlic prawns, and other goodies. $59.95 per person. Feb. 11-14.  

The Gallery in the Ballantyne Resort celebrates with a 4-course prix fixe menu offering an entree choice of Filet mignon or Georges Bank lemon sole and for dessert, chocolate mousse cake or passion fruit crème brûlée, plus salad and a starter. $65 per person. Available Fri. Feb. 10-Tues. Feb. 14. 

LuLu Wine Dine in Plaza Midwood plans a 5-course gourmet spread beginning with Shrimp Bisque, followed by Foie Gras with chanterelle butter or Roasted Bone Marrow and a 16 oz "Cowgirl" Ribeye with chanterelle butter or Ravioli with lobster claw, plus salad, dessert, and a glass of bubbly. $75 per person. 

Love on Sunday: Valentine Brunches 

Mimosa hosts its forth annual Valentine's Day Buffet Brunch on Sunday, Feb. 12, with a complimentary glass of champagne included.  

Passion8 Bistro's 3-course Sweethearts Champagne Bruncheon includes a choice of entrees such as NC trout and lobster ravioli. $29 per person. Sunday, Feb. 12 only.   

Waldhorn German Restaurant's Sunday brunch buffet has 23 items plus 10 desserts to get your Valentine celebration off to a sweet start. 

Love All Month

Maggiano's celebrates a Month of Love with a special meal for two including any appetizer, flatbread, or two side salads; two entrees: lobster tails with risotto (additional $10 charge), beef tenderloin medallions, or chicken scaloppine; one dessert; and two glasses of wine for $70 per couple. Available through Feb. 29. 

The Ember Grille in the Westin downtown offers a special 4-course prix fixe menu all month, featuring shrimp cocktail, truffle scented gnocchi, filet and scallop duet, and chocolate creme brulee. $69.95 per person includes a glass of champagne. On Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, the Lobby Bar hosts a Valentine's Takeover party with DJ Little Betty. 

At McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant locations, you can design your own combination platter from five different entrees including scampi shrimp, phyllo wrapped cod, swordfish, crabcakes, and grilled salmon. Two choices for $23.95, three for $28.95. For Valentine's Day, make reservations for Feb. 10-14 and the restaurant will help out with custom menus and flowers for your Valentine, special menu items and more.
