Charlotte Observer releases its Sweet 16 football poll: week of September 7, 2009

For those of you that are not familiar with the Charlotte Observer, the Queen City's daily newspaper, they release a high school football poll weekly called the Sweet 16. The Sweet 16 is comprised of Observer-area high schools. For more information on how schools are made eligible, please click here.

I will give you my top 20 of the area weekly beginning next week. I will use my own criteria and make it semi-secret like how the Sagarin ratings are comprised.

For this week, the Sweet 16 from the Charlotte Observer is as follows (all schools are located in North Carolina unless otherwise noted):

  3. Charlotte Butler (2-0); last week: 3
  4. Charlotte Independence (3-0); last week: 4
  5. Rock Hill, S.C. (2-0); last week: 6

  7. Boiling Springs Crest (2-0); last week: 9
  8. Charlotte Mallard Creek (2-1); last week: 11
  9. Lancaster, S.C. (2-0); last week: 13
  10. Newton-Conover (2-0); last week: 14
  11. Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe (2-1); last week: 8
  12. Clover, S.C. (2-0); last week: not ranked
  13. East Mecklenburg (2-1); last week: 7
  14. Lenoir Hibriten (3-0); last week: not ranked
  15. Charlotte Country Day (2-0); last week: not ranked

Dropped out of the Sweet 16 from last week: Charlotte CatholicNorth MecklenburgKannapolis Brown, and Rock Hill (S.C.) Northwestern.
