Charlotte McDaniel, a 47-year-old bus driver with the Indianapolis Public Schools faced off this week with a surly, 14-year-old student named Autumn Bonilla. The broom handle won.

According to Fox News Insider on Wednesday, McDaniel was caught on cell phone video smacking Bonilla with the handle of the bus broom, allegedly breaking the teen’s nose and almost causing her to black out. McDaniel says she had no choice but to defend herself.

The veteran bus driver says that she pulled her bus over to discipline another student. That’s when Bonilla and her mouth stepped in and started arguing with McDaniel. It ended with the bus ride beat down.

Bonilla admits she started the verbal abuse.

“I completely 100 percent admit that I started it. I’m not going to sit here and lie to you. I did start it. But that (doesn’t) give a grown woman a reason to put her hands on me at all,” Autumn said.

The altercation appeared to start over an argument regarding the fact Bonilla was filming the bus driver with her cell phone camera as McDaniel was disciplining another student. The two argued, then went at it.

“She told me I had to put my phone away, and I told her I wasn’t putting anything away. Then we started cussing at each other,” the teen said. “I didn't know what I got hit with at first. She hit me in my temple with the broomstick. I have a fractured bone in my nose.”

The audio in the video is low because of the profanity.

McDaniel has been suspended while the district conducts an investigation.

Indianapolis Public School superintendent Lewis Ferebee said he does not approve of how McDaniel handled the situation.

“Very concerned and want to assure our community that the driver or any driver that exhibits those behaviors will not be allowed to transport our students,” he said.

“You can say I started it. I got what I deserved,” admitted Bonilla. Autumn's mother doesn't think so. "I couldn't believe that an adult would hit a child like that," said Karen Bonilla. Karen has since pulled her daughter out of school and wants the driver punished.

What are your thoughts on this incident after watching the video? We all know that school officials are hamstrung when it comes to laying a finger on a student, yet every day they are forced to deal with pressurized situations, some of which can quickly become threatening and may even border on assault. Did this snarky teen get what she deserved? Or did the driver go too far?

Perhaps mother and daughter should sit down and watch this together:
