Back in December, the logo was revealed for the new Charlotte Hornets since they took back the name from the now New Orleans Pelicans. Well, with the start of the 2014 season just a few months away, the team has now unveiled their new uniforms. The Charlotte Hornets have gone back in time, but still put in a bit of a modern look for their new uniforms per NBA.com on June 19, 2014.
The new uniforms bring back in the very popular purple and teal colors that were loved by everyone during the team's initial run in Charlotte. That team played in Charlotte from their inception in 1988 until 2002 when they moved to New Orleans.
From there, the team kept the nickname and colors until last season when New Orleans changed their colors and nickname to something more local-oriented, the Pelicans.
The Charlotte Hornets' home jersey will be white with purple numbers and teal trim. "HORNETS" is written in teal and in big letters across the chest.
Charlotte's road jersey will be purple with teal numbers and trim. "HORNETS" is written in white.
The Hornets' alternate jersey is teal with purple numbers and trim while "CHARLOTTE" is written in big white letters across the chest.
As the Charlotte Bobcats, the team actually cycled through a number of logos, jerseys, and color schemes. Their most recent, and final, look as the Bobcats was a mostly navy blue look with some orange and red trim.
After the 2012 season, the New Orleans team relinquished the "Hornets" nickname, and Michael Jordan soon after announced that Charlotte would re-brand as the original team name. The change to the New Orleans Pelicans came after former owner George Shinn sold the franchise to the NBA which eventually was sold to Tom Benson.
It's going to be a new look for the NBA in the 2014 season, and the Charlotte Hornets are back. The old pinstripes may be gone, but they've still brought back a lot of nostalgia for a new team.
