Charlotte Church announces settlement against News Group Newspapers (photos)

Charlotte Church was outside the Royal Courts of Justice  reading a statement to the gathered press in London, England on Monday morning. Charlotte Church and her parents accepted a settlement from News Group Newspapers, the publishers of the News of the World after decision to finalize an ongoing battle with the entertainer was reached. The singer allegedly was being hacked by the company.

"Whatever I have had to go through, they have suffered as well. They have been harassed, put under surveillance, and my mother was bullied into revealing her own private medical condition for no other reason than they were my parents,” said Charlotte Church. "Someone in a newspaper thought that was okay. How can that be, in any right-thinking society?”

The settlement of nearly one millions dollars for Charlotte Church provides vindication for the singer who was caught in a web of tabloid intrigue as a teenager. Finding out details about her personal life, the News of the World always seemed to have the scoop. It was later revealed there were special tactics in place to keep track of the personal life of the singer and her family.
