The UNC Asheville Bulldogs defeated the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium to even the three game series at one win each.
The Bulldogs Catcher, senior Ian Graham, came out swinging and hit a solo homerun in the first at-bat of the game. The Niners gave up two runs off of two hits and the Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead.
Charlotte scored one run in the bottom of the third to trim the deficit to one. But Graham extended the bulldogs lead to 3-1 with his second solo homerun in the top of the fifth.
The 49ers starting pitcher, senior John Hamilton, was replaced after 4.2 innings and giving up three earned runs and five hits. Hamilton was also charged with the loss for the third time this season.
The Niners had three errors in the top of the seventh and Asheville added three more runs off of two hits to increase the lead 6-1. The 49ers tried to rally by adding two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning but came up short, losing 6-3. The Niners recorded their 12th loss and the Bulldogs earned their 10th win on the season.
Game three of the series will be played at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium on Sunday April 7 at 1 p.m.
