This Saturday on Showtime, the current USBA Junior Middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo will attempt to take another step toward stardom when he takes on “King” Gabe Rosado.
Five years into his professional career, Charlo (22-0, 11 KOs) has passed every test with flying colors. He’s shown flashes of promise in his last 4 fights by dispatching notable foes such as Harry Joe Yorgey and Demetrius Hopkins.
The hard-nosed veteran Gabriel Rosado (21-7, 13 KOs) will provide another stern test for Charlo. Rosado is only three months removed from giving WBO Champion Peter Quillin all he could handle before the fight was stopped for severe cuts.
As far as resumes and experience, Rosado has faced far superior competition compared to Charlo. He’s faced off against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin, Kassim Ouma, Alfredo Angulo, and Jesus Soto Karass. Although he’s more accustomed to fighting big fights, he usually comes up short in most of them. A loss to Charlo will solidify his gate-keeper status.
Charlo should be able to separate himself with his athleticism and youth advantage. Look for Rosado to make it an exciting affair due to the “never quit” approach he implements in all of his fights. Don’t be surprised if fireworks break out before Charlo mows down Rosado in the 8th round.
