People magazine is reporting that Charlie Sheen is calling it quits after next week's taping of the popular sitcom Two and a Half Men.
Sheen's contract is over at the end of this season, and according to reports, he already turned down an offer to renew the contract for next year. CBS and Sheen's representative will not confirm or deny the report.
Sheen has been cleaning up his act while in rehab, where he admitted himself, following a fight at Christmas, with his wife Brooke Mueller. Mueller contends that Sheen threatened her life and held a knife to her throat, while they were in Aspen, Colorado, for the holidays. Sheen hoped that his case would be dismissed, but RadarOnline claimed that Colorado prosecutors are said to be denying a plea deal.
Aspen District Attorney Arnold Mordkin angrily denied the reports and stated,
If there is any report that says I said that, that report is not attributable to me. I don't know who said that, but I did not. [Radar] should be ashamed of themselves. It is a felony charge; one never knows what a plea deal will do.
Richard Cummins, Sheen's attorney, said in a statement in early March,
We have not entered a plea yet, but we would be entering a plea of not guilty and certainly would not enter into any disposition that contemplated a felony, because no felony occurred."
On March 15, 2010, Sheen entered a plea of not guilty to charges of assault, menacing and criminal mischief, at a hearing at the Pitkin County Courthouse in Aspen, Colorado.
