Charlie Sheen gives $10,000 to provide therapy dog for injured teen

Teagan Marti’s family couldn't afford a therapy dog. Their home is in foreclosure, the medical expenses for Teagan are astronomical and the family just fell apart. But according to the Huffington Post on Feb. 15, actor Charlie Sheen is turning some of that around. Sheen wired $10,000 to the girl’s family to purchase a much-needed therapy dog.

Teagan Marti begged her family to take her to Wisconsin Dells after seeing the Terminal Velocity ride on the Travel Channel. Unfortunately, the ride quickly turned from an amusement into a nightmare as Teagan fell 100 feet when nets and air bags supposed to catch riders on the free-fall ride were not raised.

She was hospitalized for three months and had no use of her arms and legs. Thanks to effective therapy, she can now walk with a walker. A dog was the answer, but the expense was way out of the family budget.

How did Teagan’s plight get to Charlie Sheen? Lucia Wilgus of Eau Claire, Wis. became friends with the family and began fundraising to help them find a dog and arrange training. Charlie Sheen’s godfather is a Wilgus family friend and Benedictine brother in Benet Lake, Wis. The estimated cost was around $6,000. The request got to Charlie's godfather who passed it on to the actor.

Charlie Sheen, never one to mince words or pennies, sent $10,000 in case of extra costs. “If there’s a need for more, I told them to call me,” Sheen said. “I like to pay it forward. People come into your orbit for a reason. You don’t always know what that is ahead of time, but if I ignore these requests then I don’t have any opportunity to see where these things lead us, or lead me.”

Sheen has been very generous of late. He usually doesn't like to talk about his philanthropy, but he wanted to talk about this one to inspire others to donate.

Teagan gets her English Golden Retriever puppy on her birthday in September. She hasn't yet thought of a name. "I think they should name the dog Charlie," Sheen joked.
