Charlie Sheen donates $10,000 to injured teen for therapy dog

In July of 2010, Florida teen Teagan Marti tragically plummeted 100 feet down from a malfunctioning amusement park ride from Extreme World amusement park in Lake Delton, Wisconsin. Since the accident she has been hospitalized in Wisconsin and Florida and has accumulated thousands of dollars in medical and therapy bills. Now, in the year 2013, Teagan Marti has made huge progress with therapy and can even move around with the aid of a walker. However, the bills continue to pile up and the insurance companies are no longer covering physical therapy cost. Just as the Marti’s financial situation looks impossible they receive a generous donation from the infamous Charlie Sheen.

Actor Charlie Sheen has kindly donated $10,000 to Teagan Marti to help her purchase a therapy dog who will be her companion and aide on her road to recovery. “I’m in such disbelief….What a guy,” proclaimed the teen’s mom Julie Marti upon hearing the news of this charitable gift. Since the accident the Marti’s home has been foreclosed, insurance companies have stopped paying for therapy, and Julie Marti has gone through a pricey divorce. Thus, this gift has come just in time.

So, how does a teenage girl come to cross paths with Charlie Sheen and end up with a $10,000 gift? According to USA Today the Marti’s have a family friend who is also good friends with Charlie’s godfather. The friend wrote to Sheen’s godfather explaining the Marti’s situation, the godfather then passed the message on to Charlie who felt compassion for Teagan and her family and decided to help out.

The $10,000 gift is being used to purchase an English Golden Retriever puppy and to pay for its training in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin to become the perfect helper dog.

Service and therapy dogs like Marti’s new English Golden Retriever are highly trained dogs that assist sick, injured, and disabled people with day to day life. These dogs are trained to pick up items, open doors, turn on and off light switches and other helpful tasks. These dogs are also bred and trained to be patient, gentle life-long companions to the humans they help.
