On Aug. 23, 2013, Charlie Sheen fired off an angry tweet directed at the producers of “Days of Our Lives” after it was announced Chandler Massey would be replaced on the soap opera. According to Gay Star News, Massey has played the gay character Will Horton, which will be recast in three months.
In response, Sheen tweeted, “hey ‘Days of Our Lives’, producers – newsflash you two dollar pig ph*****s: now your show REALLY sux!! you fired Chandler Massey?? Are you trying to make Ashley Butcher look talented? NOW his career begins! he’s a winner. period the end. His TWO EMMYS speak to that fact you g***…? Rhymes with ‘go eat sum butt. c”
Massey told Gay Star News that NBC agreed to release him from his 4-year contract three months early so he could focus on school and seek out other acting gigs.
“I’m done. It’s bittersweet,” he said. “These four years have been so amazing. I've built a family here. I’m so grateful to NBC and everyone for these amazing four years…”
Thus, it appears Massey has stated he has chosen to leave the show, however, Sheen does not seem to believe that is the case.
It could be because the “Days of Our Lives” producers had initially announced Massey’s role would not be recast, but have now decided to do so to keep the coupling of Will Horton and Sonny Kirakis, played by Freddie Smith, alive due to its massive popularity.
