Charlie Sheen: Adrienne and Paul encouraged Sheen to check into rehab

Adrienne Maloof and Dr. Paul Nassif of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" received a call from actor Charlie Sheen's home early Thursday morning, according to People magazine.

"We did receive a call from Charlie's house this morning, asking for medical assistance and advice," they told People Magazine. They "immediately insisted the caller dial 911. Dr. Nassif also immediately called 911."

Sheen, the star of the series "Two and a Half Men" went by ambulance to an LA hospital Thursday morning due to "severe abdominal pain," a representative told "The Insider."

"As longtime friends, we are obviously very concerned about his well-being."  "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" stars said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now and we wish him a speedy recovery."

The 45-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

According to Fox News, Sheen had "'a briefcase full of cocaine' delivered to his house, and proceeded to use copious amounts amid a 36-hour bender which involved partying with two porn stars and a bevy of other women," but according to his rep, Stan Rosenfeld, Sheen did not overdose and told FOX411's Pop Tarts that he was suffering from 'severe abdominal pain," which turned out to be a hiatal hernia.

“Charlie has had a history of having this type of hernia, and the person who made the 911 call said he had severe stomach pains and said it was from a hernia condition,” Rosenfeld told Pop Tarts. “Since she is not a doctor, I did not extend her medical knowledge to the media.”

Bravo TV spoke to Adrienne Maloof to set the record straight:

"Paul told them to call 911, then he called 911 himself to make sure help was on the way," Adrienne says. The couple then met the ambulance when it arrived at the hospital, and Paul even accompanied his friend to the ER. However, Adrienne notes that her surgeon husband was there as a neighbor and a friend, and didn't actually treat Sheen.

So how did Adrienne and Paul wind up at the other end of the phone on Thursday? Adrienne told us the couple have been friends with Sheen since he moved in to a home just a few minutes down the road from their Beverly Hills estate. "We've been friends for six or seven years. Charlie and Brooke (Mueller) got married at our place," Adrienne told us. But the couple's aid didn't end when Sheen arrived at the ER. “My husband and I encouraged Charlie Sheen to go into rehab, and he checked himself in today."

UPDATE: 01/28/2011 4pm TMZ reports Charlie Sheen checked into rehab earlier today and his show "Two and a Half Men" is on hiatus, According to his publicist, "He is most grateful to all who have expressed their concern."
