Although fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" are upset with the casting of both co-stars, Charlie Hunnam says that he wanted the role of Christian Grey due to chemistry with Dakota Johnson. On September 8, The Huffington Post reported that Hunnam's desire to play Christian Grey only increased during a reading between himself and Johnson. He was quoted as saying, "As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us."
Despite the excitement of "Fifty Shades" author EL James, fans are not pleased over the casting. One might say they are downright furious. So much so, that a petition to recast both leading roles has gained more than 76,000 signatures now at change.org. Instead, fans are pushing to have Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel cast in the roles but due to a huge amount of publicity that the production is receiving lately, this recast is highly unlikely.
Although many did not know the name "Charlie Hunnam" prior to this casting, he is quite an accomplished actor. In addition to a starring role as Jax on "Sons of Anarchy," Hunnam has appeared in many box office hits. He recently has appeared in "Pacific Rim." Other movies that helped make him famous are "Deadfall," "Children of Men" and "Cold Mountain."
Dakota Johnson is no newcomer to the acting business herself. With parents like Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, it's no surprise that we see her in movies now as well. Dakota's most notable roles were in "21 Jump Street," "The Five-Year Engagement" and "The Social Network." She also played Kate in the short-lived television series "Ben and Kate."
