It’s official – earlier today, E.L. James tweeted that the movie version of her bestselling book, “Fifty Shades of Grey” has finally been cast. Dakota Johnson (best known for her role in “The Social Network”) will play Anastasia Steele and "Sons of Anarchy" heartthrob Charlie Hunnam will star as everyone's favorite billionaire s&m aficionado, Christian Grey.
Casting of the movie has been a hot topic ever since Focus Features and Universal forked over $5 million for movie rights in March 2012. From Emma Watson to Armie Hammer, the talk got hot. Both Watson and Hammer made it clear they were not interested in the part. Hammer told Playboy, “I mean, come on — it’s just mommy porn. I’m not going to sit on top of the laundry machine in spin cycle reading about putting a ball gag in someone’s mouth. That doesn’t do it for me.”
Johnson is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, and has had roles in “21 Jump Street” and the Fox sitcom “Ben and Kate.” Hunnam has played Jax Teller for the past six years in FX’s biker hit, “Sons of Anarchy” and starred in this summer’s “Pacific Rim.”
The film is scheduled to be released August 1, 2014.
