After months of speculation, Universal Pictures has finally settled on which actors will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the hotly anticipated adaptation of E.L. James’ “50 Shades of Grey.” According to Sept. 2 reports from The Wrap, Dakota Johnson has been cast as Anastasia, and Charlie Hunnam will play Christian.
Hunnam, best known as Jax from FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” was confirmed for the role over a week agao, but it was kept hidden until the studio could confirm Johnson’s part.
Johnson is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, as well as the granddaughter of Tippi Hedren (“The Birds”). She’s had supporting roles in “The Social Network,” “21 Jump Street,” and “The Five-Year Engagement.” She also starred in the canceled Fox sitcom, “Ben and Kate.”
James revealed the cast announcements via Twitter. Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Nowhere Boy”) will be directing a screenplay from Kelly Marcel (“Saving Mr. Banks”).
