Charleston Angel Partners (CHAP) is a community leadership organization established to connect early stage entrepreneurs and with investors. The company was started in 2003 in Charleston, South Carolina. The company's focus is to facilitate the economic advancement and development in the Charleston area and surrounding region by providing guidance, resources, and funding to growth oriented companies in early stages of development. The company is looking for US based Southeast companies with a solid and executable business plan and earning potential of at least $50 million within 5 years. Potential applicants should be incorporated as a C-corporation with an independent board of advisors. Initial investment preferences are companies that have already raised substantial capital from founders, business associates, grants, friends, or other sources.


Members of (CHAP) are accredited qualified investors in the Charleston area who have the appropriate relevant business experience or expertise. The investors meet the guidelines of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission for Accredited Investors whose annual individual or joint net worth is at least $1 million or whose individual income is at least $200,000 or joint income is at least $300,000.


CHAP typically invests in companies of any industry as long as the company is capable of achieving a significant return on investment. To accomplish this task, the company must have a strong management team and a well prepared business plan.

To apply, CHAP requires interested companies submit a two to five page executive summary and business plan to the Executive Administrator. The information provided should cover the following: (1) a description of the product or service and the problem it solves; (2) description, size, and growth projections for the target market; (3) an outline of competitors with your comparative strengths and limitations; (4) revenue history to date and pro forma financials for the next 3 – 5 years; (5) outline of previous investments and names of prominent investors; (6) outline of how the funds will be used; (7) and outline of management team with list of names, positions, qualifications, and prior experience in the industry or other startups.
