Charity of the Week

The economy has hit charities very hard. With more people in need of services and less funding available, it is becoming more and more difficult for charitable organizations to meet the needs of the community. In order to raise awareness of charities most in need this holiday season, Amanda Molé will be featuring one non-profit organization per week throughout the month of December.

Charity of the Week: And now for something completely different...

Many of us give to charities in good faith, hoping that the bulk of what we give goes directly to the people most in need, and have more than once been disappointed in later finding out that funds were misused. While this has not deterred most people from charitable giving, many people have wondered, "What if I could give my gifts directly to those who need them?"

If charity begins at home, then here is a great opportunity to help Spring Hill residents.

A local family recently lost everything in a massive fire. The couple, their three kids, and two dogs piled into a car and drove around looking at Christmas lights, only to return home and find that their home -- and everything in it, including three pet cats -- were consumed by flames. The family of five and their dogs are now living in a hotel for the time being.

A local small business, All About Music Lessons, is collecting donations for this family. While they need everything -- literally, everything -- to start rebuilding, what they are most in need of right now is clothing, furniture, and kitchen supplies (especially pots and pans for cooking). The children's clothing sizes are: size 7 for the girl and 8/10 and 4 for the boys. All About Music will be open today until 3:00pm. The studio is closed the week of the 26th-30th, but will reopen on January 2, 2012, for regular business hours.

Remember when we talked about changing lives with a dollar? This family needs a miracle. Will you be that miracle?
