I’m posting this plea as a favor to assist Daffy's Pet Soup-Kitchen -- a very worthwhile charity which helps people keep their pets by offering free pet food and access to affordable vet care.
This place is 'for real'.
What a wonderful, selfless thing they do, KEEPING PETS and their FAMILIES TOGETHER during hard personal and economic times.

Below is the email from the founder of Daffy’s Pet Soup-Kitchen, Tom Wargo (updated):
Dear Community Member:
We are sending out this email in hopes of reaching people (like us) who care about their community. We have run the largest pet food bank in Georgia for the last 13 years.
In September of 2008 we leased our first warehouse in Lawrenceville. Since then, we have distributed more than 450,000 lbs. of pet food and supplies. As you know, we recently lost our warehouse sponsor and were forced to sign a new lease and incur these expenses ourselves. This has created a need get community leaders more involved in our organization and the cause behind our organization. At present, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen provides pet food and services to individuals in over 40 counties, but to maintain our presence in the community, we need additional support!
Our mission is to help those who are in financial crisis continue to feed and care for their pets. The only alternative to Daffy’s feeding those pets for them is to give them up. In addition to the heartache the family or individual endures by giving up part of their family, there is the additional cost/burden on the community for every surrendered or abandoned. On average, over 60% of people have pets, and they have an average of 2.4 pets per family. With the economy suffering the economic downturn it’s in, hundreds of families are struggling to feed their pets. Oftentimes people would rather care for their pets (which is some cases is their ONLY family) than themselves. People are referred to us from the local food banks, co-ops, churches, and animal controls. We feel that no one should go hungry or go without medication so they can properly care for their pet.
As the main organization distributing pet food and supplies to families in Georgia, we receive requests from the Department of Agriculture to assist outlying area animal control facilities struggling due to lack of funds and food. These animal control centers have resorted to euthanasia due to lack of funds. This is a problem that needs to be addressed-no pet should be put down because the facility housing them is out of food.
We keep animals with their families by providing free pet food and discount vet care through participating vets. Our program requires the customers have their pets spayed/neutered and that they volunteer in their community at least (5) hours per month to participate in our program. Over 1000 animals have been spayed / neutered because of our program requirements. In addition, the community has had the use of thousands of man-hours of community service.
In 2010 we plan to work with sponsors and clients on some larger community projects and are accepting news project ideas as well.
Funding to keep us going comes from individuals, groups and businesses. Holidays are rapidly approaching and we will receive more demands on our pet food bank and programs. We are still recovering (both our funds and supplies) from serving flood victims and our funds are at an all time low. We need your help to keep going. Please consider becoming a monthly sponsor.
We would love an opportunity to discuss monthly sponsorships. For as little as $25 per month, you will help us keep our doors open and help feed hungry pets and keep those families together. We provide a large service to our community, but we are not asking for a large donation. All SOS Club programs are run entirely by volunteers but we need funds help cover our expenses, keep our programs going, our warehouse open, and continue to serve our community.

In a study published in New Scientist, they calculated a medium dog eats 164 kilograms of meat and 95kg of cereals every year. It takes 43.3 square meters of land to produce 1kg of chicken a year. This means it takes 0.84 hectares to feed Fido.
They compared this with the footprint of a Toyota Land Cruiser, driven 10,000km a year, which uses 55.1 gigajoules (the energy used to build and fuel it). One hectare of land can produce 135 gigajoules a year, which means the vehicle's eco-footprint is 0.41ha – less than half of the dog's.
I am not suggesting to get rid of fido but we need to look at the impacts on the environment. Dogs are greedy and consume too much.
Some environmentalists in the study suggest eating some dogs... How far will they go... It may help save the planet though...If people really do care about it.
