The FSS (Family Shelter Service) “Be a Hero for Hope” 2013 5K/10K walk/run that has been scheduled for Sunday, October 27th at Downers Grove North High School is already making strides – even before the race has begun. They are doing so with the help of their charitable fundraisers for this event.
In order to pay back these hard working teams and individuals, FSS is announcing the initial fundraising prizes – and don’t worry, many more will be given out on race day! They simply wanted to congratulate the top fundraisers to date and encourage them to continue on with their efforts.
The top two fundraising teams include:
1. The Completely Crazies that have raised $3,654 to date. They will be receiving a chicken lunch party for 10 for all of their efforts.
2. Kathy’s Conquerors has raised $815 so far. They will receive a gift certificate to Skuddlebutt’s for their efforts.
Two individuals have also shown their stuff:
1. Ruth Fink-Winter deserves the top honor for her individual fundraising efforts by collecting $2,126.55 to date. She will be receiving a Lou Malnatti’s gift certificate.
2. Kathy Dawidiuk has raised $815 to date and she will receive a Skuddlebutt’s gift certificate.
It is extremely heartwarming to realize that in this day and age, so many people still care for others and are willing to prove that by all of the effort that they put in by raising money for such good causes as this race. The funds will help the mothers and children in abusive situations; getting them into safer living conditions, helping them to get jobs and pay bills by training them through proper methods. All of this takes time and money and these fundraisers are seeing to it that the great work of the Family Shelter Services can continue to provide their good works to those in need.
For those participating in the race, know that there will be race-day warm-ups provided by Ian Matthews. He is the owner of PrimalFit Training and will bet all runners and walkers stretched and ready for this year’s walk/run.
Also, if you like to show up early for these competitions, Sue from Yoga2u does, too. In fact, she will be offering participants with a 45-minute class. It will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. on the football field at Downers Grove North High School. Sue will provide the mats so all you have to do is attend.
Although many participants will be competitive for this great cause, don’t forget that you can dress up as your favorite Superhero or create one of your own and compete in that costume. For those less likely to compete in an entire costume, remember that you can always don a debonair mustache instead.
No matter how you participate, Family Shelter Service is just sincerely grateful for the funds and for the attention drawn to this great event. Thanks to the public they are able to continue in their quest of helping women in children in dire situations reach a better life!
