A 59-year-old Orland Hills man and a 23-year-old Carpentersville man are charged in connection with separate fatal traffic accidents on Sunday.
Robert Caputo, of Orland Hills, is charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence for a fiery accident on Interstate 80 near Parker Road Sunday afternoon.
Investigators say Caputo was driving a pickup truck that crashed into another vehicle. That vehicle was forced from the road, landed in a ditch and burst into flames.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim.
Meanwhile, Alonso Huerta-Perez, of Carpentersville, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality. The accident occurred in West Chicago at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
The DuPage County State's Attorney's office says Huerta-Perez was driving with five other men westbound on Lester Street when he ran a stop sign at the Route 59 intersection and slammed into a car driven by Austin Weidner, 27, of Schaumburg. Weidner died from his injuries.
Investigators say Huerta-Perez and the other men in his vehicle ran from the accident scene. Police caught up with Huerta-Perez four hours later.
More charges may be filed against Huerta=-Perez if toxicology tests determine drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the crash.
