UPDATE 6/18/14: According to, after an investigation, Geisel was arrested on February 12 and has remained in jail since his arrest in lieu of $10,000 bail. He was indicted on June 11 on one-count 3rd degree animal cruelty by an Atlantic County grand jury. If convicted, Geisel possibly faces up to five years in state prison.

An Egg Harbor Township man has been charged in the death of Bella, the dog found on January 29 in the woods behind Norms-Dale Mobile Home Park on Ocean Heights Avenue.

Steven Geisel, 49, was charged with animal cruelty for allegedly beating and killing Bella, who was owned by a relative that lives in the community.

The female pit bull suffered traumatic injuries to her neck. Police state that it seems the dog’s neck was stomped on repeatedly.

Public tips and the investigation led to the charges against Geisel. The charges can carry jail time, fines, and community service if he is convicted.

According to Atlantic County SPCA’s Facebook page, additional charges for the neglect of three dogs in the home are being filed against Steven Geisel, Sr., Jr., Kristen Geisel, and Danny Cruz. Their court date is set for February 21 at 9 a.m.

Two other dogs, Baby Blue and Bandit, have been removed from the home.
