After a "tough" defeat to open the District 5-5A season Jan. 2, the Central boys basketball team rebounded to beat Keller last Tuesday to pull even at 1-1.

But school-district foe Fossil Ridge had other plans Friday night as the Panthers clawed their way to their first 5-5A win of the year, beating the Chargers 59-45.

Central hosted Euless Trinity on Tuesday after the paper’s press deadline. Visit www.kellercitizen.com for results and updated standings.

Though the Panthers and Chargers are rivals, Central head coach Kit Pehl said before the game that it adds to the motivation and can be a good thing.

"It’s a district game, so it’s tense anyway," Pehl said. "But you’re playing against kids you’ve known and played against for so long, it adds to it. The rivalry aspect just makes an intense game more fun."

Central’s next two contests are on the road, as they travel to Colleyville Heritage Friday and then are at Grapevine Jan. 19.
