He didn't put up the record-breaking 517 yards like he did in the New England Patriots' opening game against the Miami Dolphins, but he didn't need to as Tom Brady and his Patriots easily defeated the San Diego Chargers. New England used another stellar performance from Brady, a fortunate set of mistakes from the Chargers and their home crowd to win the match 35-21.
Completing 31-of-40 passes in the home opener, Tom Brady threw for 423 yards for three touchdowns and no interceptions. Add that to the whopping numbers he put up last week on Monday Night Football and that's a new NFL record with 940 yards over two games.
But just as Brady had help on the field, throwing touchdown passes to tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski, he was not alone when he took the podium after the game.
In a unique change from the norm, Brady shared the spotlight for his post-game presser with receiver Deion Branch. The wide receiver caught eight passes for 129 yards in the victory. Branch had his own reasoning for why Brady is consistently solid on the field.
"You have to see this guy's eyes," Branch said of Brady. "Once he's in the pocket, his eyes are so big when he's getting ready to throw the ball. I guess he's so excited when guys are so open."
Those eyes are focused on much more than just a good start to the season, as Brady mentioned later in the press conference.
"We're going to stay after it," the quarterback added. "Two wins doesn't get you anything in this league."
Brady and the Patriots head back on the road to make it 3-0 on the season next week against the also 2-0 Buffalo Bills.
