If one of your new year's resolutions was to help support a good cause in 2014, Opici Wine Company has developed a line of wines to help you reach that goal.
The wines hail from Columbia Valley in the state of Washington. The "O" Wines label was established in 2006 in Woodinville, Washington with a mission to fund scholarships for low income, capable young women so they can achieve their greatest potential through education. According to the website and the label, the "O" stands for "Opportunity."
It comes in both a red and white wine. The red, simply called Red Wine, is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, which definitely is as they promise: "Fruit forward, easy to enjoy red blend with lively fruit characters and balanced on the palate." During a recent in-store tasting at Circus Wines in Middletown, most of the customers were very much impressed by this wine, the cause and the price.
The "O" Wines Columbia Valley Chardonnay is also very fruit forward. It is a refreshing style of Chardonnay with inviting aromas of pear, baking spice and elegant oak. The customers tasting this found it ti be an enjoyable, lightly-oaked wine with appealing fruit flavors and great mouth feel. Delicious as a cocktail wine, this Chardonnay will pair well with foods—seafood, grilled fish, chicken, pasta, mango salsa and most cheeses.
Between 2006-2012 more than $175,000 has been raised for scholarship grants, through "O" wines. Most of the scholarship recipients were the first members of their families to attend college. In 2013, the company begain offering $20,000 scholarships, given in $5,000 increments annually over 4 years with the goal of awarding at least eight scholarships for the 2013 school year. In 2013 they exceeded the goal of eight scholarships by five and awarded 13 deserving young women scholarships to the college of their choice.
Needless to say, every purchase helps "O" Wines contribute to the "O" Wines Opportunity for Success Scholarship fund.
"O" Wines can be found at Circus Liquors/Spirits Unlimited located at 853 Highway 35 Middletown, NJ for $12.99.
