Known as the "Snow Capital of Ohio," the city of Chardon is offering Clevelanders yet another chance to experience the joys of the winter season by hosting a family-friendly WinterFest on Saturday, January 19 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Chardon WinterFest Taking place mostly on Chardon Square, admission is free to this seasonal event as are many of the activities. The festivities begin with a pancake breakfast at the Pilgrim Christian Church (served from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.) featuring all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, real maple syrup, juice and coffee. Cost for the pancake breakfast is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children under 10.
Free activities on the Square (from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) include an ice sculpting demonstration, snow bowling, making snow angels, snow putting, corn hole and making your way through a snow maze. And don't miss the ice sculptures on display around the Square.
Visitors will also be able to view a sled dog demonstration and enjoy a meet- and- greet provided by the Siberian Husky Club of Cleveland. In addition, free carriage rides around the Square will be offered as well as snowmobile rides (from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) at Mel Harder Park.
Guests will be able to warm up at outdoor fire pits and inside the log cabin where refreshments (including hot chocolate) will be available for a small donation.
Be sure to check out the Snowman Contest on the Square with the snowmen being sponsored by local businesses and decorated by Chardon High School students. Prizes will be awarded.
