Characteristics of the Sun

The Sun is the major star in our solar system. Since ancient times, it has been revered by people all around the world, from Egyptians to Celts. One Egyptian pharaoh even established a monotheistic form of religion with Sun as its central figure. The Sun stays approximately a month visiting each sign, thus taking an entire year to go through the twelve signs of the Zodiac. It imbues everything with masculine energy, and it rules the Fifth House and the sign Leo.

The light of the Sun puts forth warmth and helps to maintain life on Earth. In astrology, this luminary stands for the self, an individual’s ego and personality, the spirit, and what traits/characteristics render the respective individual unique. In other words, it symbolizes our identity and our face to the world.

The Sun rules creative ability as well, yellow being the color of joy, happiness, and creative genius. It also speaks to the power of a person to meet and overcome any challenge that everyday life may confront him/her with.

Family-related relationships, such as an individual's natural father, husband, and other male figures, as well as children are under the influence of the Sun. The latter’s energy is full of force, and it generates authority, it contributes to the ability to lead and to one's core being or, to put it shortly, one’s essence. It is through the Sun that we learn to manifest ourselves in the world.

The central luminary of our solar system is majestic and has what could be called a regal air. As such, it rules royalty and higher office. The Sun also rules our health and general well-being. The golden glow of this star represents for us a vital life force which gives us energy, strength, and a will to strive for success. Not only does the Sun give us, earthlings, strength and energy, but it does the same thing for other planets in the solar system as well. This is why the Sun is a key element in astrology, fulfilling an important role.
