Seattle Sounders FC (2-1-0) win over the Montreal Impact(1-2-0) was it’s first ever against the Impact after three attempts.
Seattle played the game without team captain Brad Evans( calf) and USA Team International and leading scorer Clint Dempsey who started the first of his two game suspension.
In addition to the two missing starters, Seattle Sounders FC saw game day pushed back twenty four hours due to snow
“ The character of the team was really good, no Dempsey, no Evans and we made some adjustments ,I really like our attitude and the guys worked really hard.” Sounders Coach Sigi Schimid said after the game
Despite being out shot 25-9 and seeing less of the ball( 55% to 44%), Seattle Sounders FC pulled off one of their most impressive road win in two years.
Seattle Sounders FC introduced a 4-3-3 formation with a strategy of pushing the ball down the flanks to counter the Montreal Impact’s three midfielder formation.
The strategy worked to perfection and kept the Montreal Impact defense on it’s heels all afternoon.
Seattle Sounder FC forward -Obafemi Martins scored his first goal of the season in the 58 minute to give Seattle Sounder FC the two goal margin it never relinquished.
“ It’s a long season but it is nice to get the three points, Martins said after the game.”
Seattle’s other goal was declared an own goal on Montreal Impact goal keeper Troy Perkins in the 8th minute.Seattle goal keeper Stefan Frei earned his second shut out in three games as Seattle won it’s first road game of the season.
Montreal was missing star strike Marco Di Vaio along with forward Andres Romero, who where suspended for the season’s first three games after last season’s incident in their MLS Cup playoff game against the Houston Dynamo.
For Seattle Sounder FC the win was much needed to regain momentum that had been lost in last weeks disappointing 2-1 home loss to Toronto FC. Seattle Sounder FC return home March 29th to face the Columbus Crew
