So you've hiked to at least three waterfalls and it is now 1 p.m. Your boots are muddy and you are hungry for some good old American comfort food. Where do you go? Char Burger at Cascade Locks comes to mind.
Known for their burgers, Char Burger also offers salads, sandwiches huge deserts and dining with a marvelous view of the Columbia River.
The dining room hasn't changed in years. It is decorated with Native American and western collectibles including a massive arrowhead collection. You'll order in a cafeteria style line but your burgers will be made to order. Find a window seat and enjoy the river scenery. Your tray will be delivered to you.
The afternoon we were there, we watched the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler pass by. The rains came and went and the food was delicious. Our burgers had soft, fresh buns. The meat was juicy and just the way I enjoy it. Watch out for the carrot cake... the portions are huge!
As we left we stopped to look at the salmon catch that the Native Americans were selling in the parking lot. They have fishing rights and you can see them fish from platforms in the Cascade Locks area.
Char Burger and Cascade Locks is a great side trip when you are visiting the Columbia River Gorge.
