Chapter 1: Her first kiss

Chapter 1 of 2 - It is normal and natural to feel angry or sad when someone disrespects you in some way. What do you do if you are the person who is in the wrong? How do you make amends if you realize that you are the one who accidentally or purposely mistreated a friend? Here is a true story about a sixth-grade girl named Debbie who did just that.

Chapter 1: What happened at the sixth-grade boy-girl party

When Debbie was in the 6th Grade, she had a boyfriend named Chris. In fact, she was one of several couples. Nancy had a boyfriend named Chuck. Emily had a boyfriend named Harry. Jenny had a boyfriend named Shawn. And finally, tall Cindy and short Billy were also boyfriend-girlfriend.

It was in the month of April that Debbie went to her first boy-girl party. It was agreed that the couples would all exchange their first kisses at that party. The girls spent quite some time discussing just what that exciting first kiss should be like. During recess, they would ask each other questions like, "Should we make a sound or should we kiss silently?"

The night of the party finally came. Only three couples showed up. There were tall Cindy and short Billy, Jenny and Shawn, and Debbie and Chris. And then there was a bunch of other guys. For whatever reason, Emily and her boyfriend Harry and Nancy and her boyfriend Chuck did not appear at the party.

Jenny, Cindy, and Debbie were quite nervous. The boys pretended to be cool, calm, and collected. After about an hour, the three couples lined up behind the house. The boys stood against the wall and the girls stood right in front of them. Tall Cindy decided that as this was their first kiss, rather than she bending over to kiss Billy, he should be the tall one. Therefore, Cindy got down on her knees, so Billy could be the one to bend over to kiss her. Then they were ready.

On the count of three, they all kissed. I don't know what it was like for the other two couples, but Chris and Debbie simply gave each other what we used to call a 'chicken peck.'  You probably are more familiar with the term ‘pop kiss.’

KISS! (Make a kissing sound.)

Then the boys went running around to the front of the house and dived into the football huddle of guys who had been curiously standing or sitting on the ground, waiting to hear what had happened. The three girls now did their best to appear calm, cool, and collected.
