Chaplain, Colonel, Allen Withers (ret.), Staff Chaplain, 22nd Air Force, was the Feb. 6 speaker at the Nashville City Civitan Club Clergy Day luncheon meeting at Swett's Restaurant in West Nashville.
Prior to Withers' talk, Civitan member George Cate talked about the history of Clergy Day which honors four military chaplains who gave up their lives by giving their life vest to soldiers when their troop ship the USAT Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943, during World II. Clergy Appreciation Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in October (Oct. 14, 2012), and October is celebrated as Clergy Appreciation Month.
Chaplain Withers talked a little about the history of Civitan International before making a segue into talking about Alive Hospice, the organization he works for now.
