Chaos in Tejas - May 31 - June 4, 2012

Black-punk is a new genre, starting in about 2000 CE/AD. It combines crust-core, post-hardcore and black metal to make a sound that is basically punk with black metal touches. At least, it's very different than black metal in song structure, lyrical topics and overall atmosphere, and musically it more resembles the open and pentatonic progressions used by punk rock bands than the minor key modal strips of black metal.

Celebrating this new genre is a festival in Texas, entitled appropriatedly "Chaos in Tejas," that brings together black-punk and punk bands for a festival of mid-length songs with punchy three-chord riffs and scream-it-at-your-parents choruses. The four-day festival will feature over 100 bands, according to the promoters, with an initial lineup announced below:

According to Brooklyn Vegan, this show will feature "appearances from across the punk, crust, indie, and metal world," which means that crustcore rules will define the show. Expect filth and hipster drama in with the music. Bring hand sanitizer and possibly air freshener.
