G.I. Joe star Channing Tatum isn't ashamed of what he had to do in the past to pay the bills.
In 1999, Tatum worked as a male stripper for a Chippendales-style revue in Florida called Male Encounter for $50 a day. He stayed at that gig for about a year before moving on.
I DID WHAT I HAD TO DO
"I never wanted to hide [my stripper past]," Channing, 29, says in the new issue of Details. "I'm happy I did it."
Adds Tatum: "I'm not proud [of having taken my clothes off for money], because it's not something to be proud of, but I had an experience that only one out of a thousand – a million – people can say they've ever had."
Channing, who's happily married to dancer Jenna Dewan, is now using his chiseled good looks to establish himself as an action hero.
"I've been through this crazy sort of life, and I came out the other side fairly unscathed," he says.
CHANNING HIT THE GYM FOR PAST ROLES
For the 2009 movie Fighting (in which he played a street fighter), Tatum worked with a personal trainer to get himself in peak condition. The core of Channing's training was high-intensity circuit workouts and weight training. 
Rigorous exercise and a low-fat, high-protein diet consisting of vegetables, burgers, lasagna, french toast and other foods made with organic and whole wheat ingredients helped Tatum lose a stunning 30 lbs. in just five weeks.
Ironically, Channing has recently been teased for having gained some weight. In fact, a snarky YouTube video called Channing Tatum Got Fat (see below) pokes fun at his bulkier physique.
But Tatum takes the ribbing in stride. "I'm gonna give it five more years and then say, 'Get me some fat roles, boys!'" he jokes.
Channing's next film, the romantic drama Dear John, comes out Feb. 5.

I can't some jerks actually made a video making fun of channing. Leave him alone! He got married, he's happy and he gained some weight, Big deal. He's still hotter than 99% of the guys out there. Go Channing!!
