After his role in romance flick “The Vow,” which hits theaters Valentine’s Day weekend, Channing Tatum will make a dramatic transition in the male stripper film “Magic Mike.”
Tatum will play the title character Mike Martingano who mentors a novice male stripper.
“Magic Mike” is a film based on a part of Tatum’s life. In a video interview with Collider, Tatum said he had been a stripper in his late teenage years.
“Everybody wants to know what the inside of a male strip club looks like,” Tatum said. “I want [people] to know very clearly that [“Magic Mike”] is a fantasy fulfillment movie and it’s an education….If you ever want to know what it’s like to be a male stripper, this is it.”
Tatum and the film's director Steven Soderbergh have also worked on the film “Haywire,” in which he stars Gina Carano and Ewan McGregor.
“Hopefully we’ll keep it going,” Tatum told Movie Fanatic of his collaborations with Soderbergh. “I want to work with him again and again.”
Tatum stars in “Magic Mike” alongside Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Olivia Munn, Joe Manganiello and CSULB alumna Wendi McLendon-Covey. It will hit theaters June 29.
