Channeling the Holy Ghost of fishing

Not a keen fishermen? Our definition of fishing reaches some wild shores. Learning how to open your mind to the techniques and skills of baiting a hook doesn’t mean you know how to catch a fish and have all of the answers. The key to the holy ghost of fishing is finding the fish and discovering the answers you need.

You have to keep putting your line of the water to be successful

Chances are you’re not going to catch a fish on your first attempt at casting to the water. The land mine is you. You will need to make many attempts and it’s likely that you will develop the instinct as much as luck.

The where and the when are as important as the what

Timing is everything. The best lure and the best presentation means nothing if you’re not where the fish are. You don’t know about the when and the where ahead of time. Many a perfect cast and perfect lure came too late or too soon, or were just plain tried in the wrong place.

When it didn’t work before or isn’t working now, doesn’t mean it won’t ever work again

Every seasoned angler knows sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. When the circumstances are different and the timing is changed the fish are biting.

When it work’s don’t assume it will always work

There’s no such thing as a free lunch in life and it’s especially true in fishing. An excellent angler has many tricks up his or her sleeve because they know the same thing doesn’t always work. Success and failure are both temporary.

Failure is a part of fishing

No one wants to fail. But the successful angler learns from it and gradually recovers from it. They know they aren’t failing they’re fishing.

Changeableness is a given

There’ no way to be sure the fish are biting, and when you think you know you are mystifying yourself.

Patience is a fishing virtue

It’s your greatest asset. When you are fishing you are going to spend way more time pursuing than catching.

“All men are equal before fish.” –President Herbert Hoover

Fishing is a great leveler. It’s humbling. A rookie can catch a lunker while the veterans get tangled up.

There’s no controlling all of the variables

Any fisherman knows you can’t always get what you want, when it comes to the perfect day or night of fishing. You can’t even begin to perceive the unknown and you need to be comfortable with it.

When the fish are biting, get her done

Don’t stop fishing. Keep, keeping on. Oh, and don’t be surprised if they should just stop biting.
