With so much nonsense on television, it can become difficult to find a good show to watch. Sure we can view pointless drama and staged reality shows, but why not learn something? The perk to having a ton of channels is stronger chances of finding a show that inspires you to do something. As we enjoy good design, we searched the television waves for fun, design-related shows for you to watch. Some are new, some have been around and some might not be what you expect. Just remember we couldn't list all design-related shows, but hope you find something you like! What is your favorite show to watch?
7 Design-Related Shows You Should Really DVR
1.) Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis - After almost a year in waiting (see "Bravo Star Jeff Lewis to Offer Therapy with New Show"), it looks like fans of Jeff Lewis will get to see him in action very soon! Premiering in March is 'Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis,' a new Bravo show that puts a spin on design. Rather than just work with his clients and tear apart poor decorating choices, Lewis (along with friend and trusted assistant, Jenni Pulos) will move into a client's home and revamp their space. Talk about personal treatment as this new show promises to be up close and quite personal. We are excited to watch the show and see how Lewis and team interacts with the people they try to help. It should make for some interesting slumber parties!
2.) The High Low Project - We shamefully admit we do not watch many HGTV decorating shows, but must say 'The High Low Project' with host Sabrina Soto steals our attention. Full of fresh and everyday designs, Sabrina works with homeowners in efforts to create their ultimate space. Sounds ordinary, right? Wrong! Sabrina works her interior magic within her client's budget (always varies) with an interesting twist. First showing them their dream room that often goes over budget, Soto then achieves the same look through more affordable pieces and diy projects. This show is our Domino magazine of television as it beautifully showcases high and low design with great takeaways for viewers.
3.) Selling New York - If we had to pick a television pleasure that we could watch over and over again, it would definitely be 'Selling New York.' The HGTV mega hit follows three of Manhattan's real estate powerhouses (CORE, Gumley Haft Kleier and Warburg) and takes viewers inside exclusive listings. Each property is amazing in its own right with great designs and amenities. There is even a staging or two as brokers work to showcase homes in the best light and obtain hefty-sized commissions. Our favorite team happens to be a family who take on New York's real estate market in heels. Mother-daughter trio Michele, Samantha and Sabrina make up the Kleiers and boy do they have amazing properties. Just this past fall, we had the privilege of attending the 2011 Esquire Magazine Ultimate Bachelor Pad which also happened to be one of their listings. Click here to read our exclusive interview with the Kleiers!
4.) The Vanilla Ice Project - Who says a rapper/rocker can't flip houses? 'The Vanilla Ice Project' is one of the coolest shows we have seen on the DIY Network to date (see "Vanilla Ice Teams Up with the DIY Network for a New Show"). The reality home improvement show follows Rob Van Winkle (aka Vanilla Ice) and takes us on a journey through remodeling as he shows off his 15 years experience in the industry. Each episode is a real treat as Ice and his team remodels a room with a Van Winkle touch. If you want a fun show that is informative, but still fun, grab your guy and check out 'The Vanilla Ice Project.'
5.) Dina's Party - Many people do not realize how much design goes into planning and executing an event. Whether you are getting married in a huge space or plan to host a small affair at home, it is important to have a good design scheme. Dina Manzo's new HGTV show 'Dina's Party' shows viewers how to transform a space for an event. The former Real Housewife of New Jersey shows off her skills as a seasoned designer and event planner that takes her events to the next level. This show is extremely fun and has some great takeaways on event planning and design. Click here to read our exclusive interview with Dina Manzo!
6.) Restaurant Impossible - One could never imagine that a network dedicated to food would also incorporate some interior decorating. 'Restaurant Impossible' follows acclaimed chef Robert Irvine as he travels across the country to help saving restaurants struggling to survive. With $10,000 and only two days, Irvine assesses each restaurant, how it functions and areas that are in major need of improvement. From there, the chef and team get to work redoing the menu, retraining the staff and updating the restaurant with a brand new design. As interiors often affect how we interact with a space, it is always great to see other industries focus on the importance of design. As we appreciate a good plate of food, 'Restaurant Impossible' is an excellent show to give you a culinary and decorating fix.
7.) Design Squad Nation - It is always important to challenge our youth to be innovative and think outside of the box. 'Design Squad Nation' is the perfect show that takes engineering and makes it fun. The PBS series has gained a lot of buzz as engineers Judy and Adam work with children around the world to help them realize their engineering dreams. There have been many memorable design-related projects we have seen on the show to include: wind-powered art from recycled materials, cardboard furniture, a pedal-powered mobile garden and much more! This is such an inspiring show that not only adds an educational element, but tons of fun. If you are not tuning in to 'Design Squad Nation,' you are truly missing out.
