The romantic feelings between Jack (Daniel Lissing) and Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) are intensifying but the chance at romance may thwarted by a change in command for the handsome Mountie. Elizabeth's younger sister, Julie (Charlotte Hegele) pays a surprise visit and brings trouble to Coal Valley. Jack confides to Abigail (Lori Loughlin) that he is investigating Gowen's (Martin Cummins) role in the mine explosion, sparking her anger.
Daniel invites Elizabeth for a proper dinner date at the cafe, showing his romantic side, with the help of Abigail. While they dine and dance, Daniel makes his romantic intentions clear. Later, Elizabeth excitedly tells her sister, Julie, that it was the most romantic night of her life.
Julie is accompanied to Coal Valley by another Mountie, who informs Jack that he has new orders and has to leave. Jack requested the transfer when he first arrived at Coal Valley, but now he has made his peace with town and wants to stay. Jack struggles to tell Elizabeth about his new post.
Gowen is showing interest in Abigail and the new cafe, as they are now business partners. Jack tells Abigail that he is investigating Gowen for his role in the mining accident, which killed so many miners. Abigail agrees to help find evidence.
While Elizabeth deals with the painful news from Jack about his departure, Julie brings danger to Coal Valley by making a friendship with an injured man who turns out to be a dangerous, wanted outlaw on the run.
