Chandler Guerrette dominates to lead Presque Isle to state title

Chandler Guerrette scored 33 points to lead the Presque Isle Wildcats to a 51-44 victory over the Lake Region Lakers Friday evening in the class B girls basketball state championship game at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.

Guerrette scored 14 points in the fourth quarter. She gave the Wildcats their first lead when she hit a running layup with 6:24 left in the fourth quarter.

The Lakers took the lead back on two different occasions in the fourth quarter. Guerrette responded each time with a basket to give the Wildcats the lead.

Guerrette hit four free throws and Hannah Graham scored three points in the final minute to seal the victory for the Wildcats.

Lake Region held a 29-21 halftime lead behind dominant play from Tiana-Jo Carter and Kelsey Winslow.

Carter recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the first half. Winslow scored 11 of her 14 points in the first 16 minutes of play.

Carter finished with 18 points, 19 rebounds, five steals and three blocks.

Guerrette scored 10 points in the second quarter and Megan Ireland hit a three pointer right before the halftime buzzer to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.

Ireland finished with 12 points including two 3-point shots.

Presque Isle finished the season with a 22-0 record. They have now won two straight state titles and 44 consecutive games. The last loss for the Wildcats came in the 2011 regional semifinals against Nokomis.
