Champlain bridge demolition (see video). Monday morning, the Champlain Bridge that runs between New York and Vermont was blown up. It was snowing in the area and although visibility isn’t great, you can still clearly see the explosion.
The 80-year old bridge measured 2,184 feet long and ran from Crown Point, NY to Addison, VT and dropped into the lake as it exploded.
The bridge closed October 16 when deemed unsafe, and took 800 pounds of explosives with 500 separate charges to bring it down. A new bridge will be built, and will open the summer of 2011.
The ‘net buzz on hot on this video Monday morning because it just happened today, and because people like to watch things blow up. The two videos below show two different angles of the explosion.
