Champagne is a wine that should be enjoyed any time of the year, it is a very food friendly wine that will pair with almost every dish. Specially with the Holidays close by, take the opportunity to drink a beautiful sparkling wine like Duval-Leroy, it was great to taste this Champagne back in May 3, 2011 at the National Distributing Company and Atlanta Wholesale Wine 6th Annual Spring Fine Wine Show at The Georgian Terrace in mid-town Atlanta.
Champagne Duval-Leroy was established in 1859 when two Champagne growers came together to share their interests. The company is one of the few remaining 100% family-owned, it has been independent for 148 years and is still located in its original hometown of Vertus; the second largest wine-grape growing district in Champagne. "An important regional center during the Middle Ages, it was entirely destroyed once during the Hundred Years’ War and then again during the Second World War. Today it enjoys its status as a thriving community based on its qualification as one of the top Premier Cru rated areas in Champagne."
Duval-Lerroy currently cultivates about 200 hectares (494 acres) of grapes, a great percentage of which is dedicated to the production of high quality Chardonnay. The superiority of Chardonnay in the elaboration of the cuvees gives character and elegance to Duval-Leroy champagnes. Since the sudden loss of her husband in 1991, Carol Duval-Leroy is been running the company as president. Trough her leadership, Duval-Leroy has seen the modernization of production processes, the development of traditional distribution channels, the increased product range and expanded exports; all of them objectives set by Carol. Duval-Leroy is ranked in the 15 top Champagne houses.
