Challenges and Trials

“Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Cor 4:17)

“Problems. Problems. Problems. What have I done to deserve this? Why won’t God answer my prayers and remove these problems from my life? I just long for the day when this situation is resolved and I can be at peace. I don’t know how much longer I can deal with this.” Can you relate to this line of thinking? If you can, please read on….. There is so much that can be said here. What I’d like to do is just present a number of biblical principles that should be helpful when trials overwhelm you.
1. Focus on God, not your problems. You give your problems too much power by focusing on them. (2 Cor 4:17)
2. Recognize that trials develop endurance, strength of character and patience. (Rom 5:3-4, James 1:2-3)
3. Remember that God is in charge of your life and His will shall be accomplished in your circumstances if you earnestly seek Him (Rom 8:28)
4. Remember that God will guide you through his Word (Psalm 119:105)
5. Live by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7, Hebrews 11:1)
6. Ask yourself this question: which is of greater value – the removal of your trial or the changing of something within your heart? (1 Peter 1:7)
7. As you seek God for strength in dealing with your trials, not only do you grow in your reliance on God, but you become an effective witness to His glory (2 Tim 1:7, 2 Tim 2:3)

“When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.” (Prov 10:25)
