The popular Latin music event Échale! Latino Music Estyles is back at Pearl this month but now it’s set to be a full blown block party celebration. The purpose of Échale! Latino Music Estyles is to celebrate Latin music and promote the preservation of Latin American arts and culture. It’s all free and happening on Saturday September 13, 2014 at the parking lot under 281 at the Pearl.
This block party will run from 1p.m. to 6p.m. and will include food from some of Pearl’s favorite restaurants, pop-ups from local artist and live art installations. It will also feature some of the best in Latin alternative music including Bomba Estéreo and Los Rakas. Columbia’s own Bomba Estéreo play traditional Columbian music mixed with “electro” and an onstage DJ. They played Lollapalooza last month and were nominated for a Latin Grammy for “Best Alternative Album” in 2013. Panamanian cousins Raka Rich and Raka Dun make up Los Rakas, a bilingual hip hop group known for fusing hip hop, reggaeton and Afro-Latino rhythms. This event at the Pearl is the last stop of the Red Bull Panamérika Pachanga Tour.
The Red Bull Panamérika Pachanga Tour is part of Pachanga Fest and takes off on Tuesday September 9 in El Paso and includes stops in Corpus Christi on September 11 and Houston on September 12. Pachanga Fest is a Latin-themed music, cultural arts and food festival held yearly in Austin. Its purpose is to shine the spotlight on some of the biggest names in the Latin music scene including acts like Julieta Venegas and Calle 13.
