Singer Chaka Khan said the Whitney Houston tribute party given by Clive Davis after her death, should not have gone forward. The "I'm Every Woman" legend, a close friend of Houston, suggested that the pre-Grammys party was "insane" and a poor decision.
Hours after Whitney Houston was pronounced dead, Clive Davis addressed party-goers who arrived for the pre-Grammys gala. He began by sharing fond words of the late star, who he discovered decades earlier, according to the LA Times.

Then, he said, "Whitney was a beautiful person and a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage with her regal presence and gave so many memorable performances here over the years. Simply put, Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on."

Au contraire; Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston's friend of many years, had another take on the decision not to cancel the party:
"I thought that was complete insanity. And knowing Whitney I don't believe that she would've said, 'The show must go on.' She's the kind of woman who would've said, 'stop everything! I'm not going to be there.' I don't know what could motivate a person to have a party in the building where the person whose life he had influenced so enormously -- and whose life has been affected by hers. I don't understand how that party went on." ~ Chaka Khan on Whitney Houston's death, citing CBS News.
However, Clive Davis has at least one person in his corner. Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said that plans to call off the gala for the 2012 Grammys was "never an option...we'd have heard Whitney's voice on our shoulders saying, 'Guys, this is show business. The show must go on.'"
Houston, always the joker, would probably have said to "halt the show.” But she was an entertainer who loved to entertain her fans with the gift of song. Arguably, Clive Davis' decision to hold the event was the right thing to do.
As one Las Vegas resident pointed out, "Big and small people die every day around the world, but The Strip never closes or dims the lights. It just adapts."
Case in point: When tourists heard about the news that Whitney Houston died, the light show at the Freemont experience was not cancelled. Instead, it was revised to include a tribute to the late "Waiting to Exhale" singer and actress. Check out this picture from the Las Vegas Sun.
