March 23, 2013 is the sixtieth anniversary of superstar singer Chaka Khan's birth. The singer enjoyed a birthday bash on Thursday, March 21st in Los Angeles at Yamashiro with a multitude of family and friends.
The singer is also celebrating forty years in the recording industry. The 100 Days of Chaka celebration celebrates her sixty years of life and forty years of recording.
July 1, 2013 will mark the fortieth anniversary of the release of her very first recording, the self-titled debut record of the band Rufus. The years that Khan spent with funk/pop band Rufus are the stuff that dreams are made of.
Khan enjoyed some of her biggest hits during her heyday with Rufus. Songs like Tell Me Something Good, You Got The Love, Everlasting Love, Please Pardon Me, Stay, Hollywood, Ain't Nobody, and Sweet Thing are still fan favorites that are a part of Khan's live repertoire until this day.
As a solo artist, Khan dominated the charts with singles like What "Cha Gonna Do For Me, I Feel For You, Through The Fire, and countless others. Her very first solo hit, I'm Every Woman, was written especially for her by songwriting super group Ashford and Simpson and featured background vocals by future megastars Luther Vandross, Cissy Houston, and the late great Whitney Houston.
Billboard Magazine is also honoring Khan's birthday and her extraordinary career with a special "Stars Tribute" issue released on March 23rd. The issue is the first ever "augmented reality" issue of the magazine where special features can be accessed via a mobile app.
